Aetna’s Driver Safety Tips from 1947

Thanks to the help of tiny toy cars and the wonders of stop-motion animation, Aetna Casualty and Surety Company provides an educational guide to safely operating a motorcar. Frankly, there’s so much math and so many clever phrases in this video that my brain hurts, but I can’t resist old-timey animation. With all these miniature cars and sets, I was hoping Godzilla would appear on the horizon to wreak havoc.

While this video is certainly dated and utterly corny, many of its lessons still apply to this day. Drunk driving remains and huge issue and even tailgating is a problem to this day, despite the adoption of Yosemite Sam “Back Off” mudflaps.
