Porsche Boxster and Cayman Turbo Details Surface

I’m a big fan of Porsche cars and while the 911 is the Porsche most of us think of, if I had my choice of a new Porsche, the Cayman would be mine. I love the smaller mid-engine design of the car and they are great fun on a track. Right now, the Cayman and Boxster both use the popular Porsche flat-six engines.

Word is that in the future the cars will go to turbo four-cylinder engines. Before you get upset, these turbo fours are said to produce more power and weigh less so it’s a big win. Some new details have surfaced about the future turbo fours for the cars. Porsche has said that it will be a flat-four and the engines will show up in the mid-life refresh for both cars. The engines are expected to be around 2.0L in size and match or outpace the current power numbers of between 265 and 330hp in the Cayman and Boxster.

The indication is that the new engines will come in 2016 or 2017. There’s also buzz on the street that at some point the venerable 911 might go turbo four as well – a very controversial decision if it holds true.
