Uber Users Get a Surprise McLaren 650S Test Drive

I’ve used Uber and Lyft all around the United States, but perhaps the best car I’ve ever been picked up in is a Volvo wagon. At the other extreme, Uber partnered with McLaren in Dubai to allow Uber users to request a ride in a McLaren 650S supercar. And the users not only got a lift to their destination, they got to sit behind the wheel and take the car for a test drive along the way.

While McLaren considers the 650S their “mid range” supercar, it comes with a 650 horsepower mid-mounted V8 engine and a 0-to-60 time of 3 seconds, so it’s most likely the fastest car any of these lucky folks have ever driven. Frankly, it’s somewhat disappointing to hear the McLaren rep explain how the 650S drives like a luxury sedan, since that’s certainly underselling it. On the other hand, I’m not sure McLaren is really targeting their target demographic via Uber considering the 650S sells for more than $250,000(USD), and are probably not in need of a lift.
