VW.com Website Get Its Configurator Back

I don’t know about you, but I really like to mess around on automaker websites when I am bored and build cars that I might like to own. Not too long ago I was building hot hatches at Ford and a few other places, but when I went to Volkswagen to build a GTI, I was irritated that they didn’t have a configurator.

I didn’t want to see local dealer inventory, I wanted to see the base price and all the options for the car in one place. If you like to build cars online, the good news is that the configurator has now shown back up at VW.com for American users.

I used it yesterday to option out a base model GTI with a manual transmission. I’m thinking that I might like to own a GTI. I’m particularly intrigued that the car seems to be underrated in the power department. The thing that bothers me is that I am a rear-wheel drive fan. Still, it’s hard to deny the fun factor of a car that can be had at around $26,000 to start.
