GazeBox Covers Your Ride While Still Showing It off

Written by John Thomas | August 10, 2015

When I was growing up in the South, a lot of people didn’t have garages, they had carports. They were essentially a roof on stilts that you parked your car under to partially protect it from the elements. I always thought they had a really cool and simple architectural beauty – and my grandparents had one so I know they even worked pretty well without having any walls. An added value was that if you were proud of your ride, the carport didn’t hide its beauty from the world to see like a conventional garage did.

Now an Italian company called GazeBox is taking that basic concept and totally futurizing it. Basically, their contraption is a small translucent shell you drive your car into that then closes down around it, both protecting it from Mother Nature and making sure that the neighbors know you just bought a sweet new Benz. The company is touting the fact that their pre-fab garage doesn’t take up much space and that it can also be used as a gazebo when your car’s not in it. You can also customize the exterior panels with some cool patterns including wood and stone, and you can remotely change the panel’s colors via LED lighting (which looks a bit hokey to me actually). And if you want to go all out, you can extras like an AC unit, alarm system and solar panels. Hell, with all of that you might as well just live in it.
