First Shelby GT350 Rolls off Assembly Line

Yesterday marked something very special over at Ford’s Flat Rock Michigan plant. The very first production Shelby GT350 Mustang rolled off the assembly line, marking the official start of production. That should mean that Ford dealers begin getting the cars on lots soon.

If you have somehow missed all the coverage of the GT350, it’s a beast of a car. It is designed for track work and has a 526 hp, 429 lb-ft. of torque flat-plane crank V8. The engine is the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine that Ford makes.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and the car has plenty of aero tidbits and brakes for track day domination. The worst part about the Shelby GT350 is that most dealerships will be adding thousands of dollars to the sticker price with market adjustments. That happens with every single Ford special-edition Mustang.
