The Dropdead Hot Phantom Drophead Coupe

“Strive for perfection in everything you do.” So said Henry Royce, and it’s hard to argue the results, including the Drophead Coupe reviewed in this XCAR video.

But before the review section commences, XCAR delivers a mini-history of Rolls-Royce. Henry Royce grew up the youngest of five kids. His father died before he was 10 years old, so Henry left school after only one year of formal education (take that, Bill Gates) and went to work to support the family. Royce took odd jobs, eventually landing at the Electric Light and Power Company. A few years later, he started a light-fitting business with a friend. In 1904, Royce started building his own cars, including one that went to Charles Rolls, a car importer. The two men partnered up, and soon Rolls-Royce was off and running.

As for the Drophead (British vernacular for soft-top), mere words don’t do it justice. Nonetheless, here are some to whet your appetite. Handbuilt in the Rolls-Royce factory in the south of England, the uber-luxurious coupe is inspired by the J-Class racing yachts of the 1930s, with its design and use of natural materials like teak. It boasts a 6.75-liter V12, cranking out 450 bhp and 531 lb-ft. torque.
