Lexus’ Hoverboard Explained

One of the things I always wanted from Back to the Future 2, other than the DeLorean, was the awesome Mattel Hoverboard. When Lexus first showed off its take on the hoverboard, I immediately thought it was a marketing gimmick that was fake.

However, the Lexus hoverboard really does work – with some big limitations. If you wondered how they made it work, check out this video which explains some of the science behind the hoverboard. There were some big challenges behind making the board work and still be ridden like a normal skateboard. And thanks to the superconducting tech that makes it hover, it will only ride above a custom-built magnetic track, and for only as long as the board remains chilled.

Sadly, Lexus has announced that the Hoverboard won’t go on sale; I continue to hope that somebody will eventually make one for all of us.
