2016 Chevy Camaro Performance Specs are Impressive
Chevrolet has unveiled the first official performance numbers for the all-new 2016 Camaro. To say the numbers are impressive is an understatement. Even the base 2.0L turbo Camaro has performance you would have needed a V8 to achieve only a few years ago. That 4-cylinder turbo car can reach 60 mph in 5.4 seconds with a manual and 5.5 seconds with an auto.
The 3.6L V6 versions can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds for the manual and 5.1 seconds for the auto. The really impressive performance comes for the Camaro SS. In fact the new model is the fastest Camaro SS to date.
Packing a 6.2L V8, the manual transmission version reaches 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, while the paddle shift 8-speed auto transmission SS can hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, and tear down the 1/4 mile in just 12.3 seconds at 116 mph. The new SS can also pull 0.97g of lateral acceleration. I think I would choose the auto. To put it in perspective, the 2015 Camaro SS needed 4.5 seconds to achieve the same. Much of this improvement was achieved through weight loss, with base Camaros shedding as much as 390 pounds, and the SS losing 223 pounds compared to the outgoing model.
I wonder how the ZL1 and Z/28 models will perform when they’re eventually announced.
