The Camaro ZL1 is a cool car built for the track, but I have never been a big fan of that car. The problem with any forced induction car for road racing work is that when they get hot, you lose power. That hasn’t stopped Chevy from selling a lot of ZL1s, nor has it stopped drivers from showing up at tracks all around the country driving them.
Some video has now surfaced of what is purportedly the new 2017 Camaro ZL1 tearing up the infamous Nürburgring. Word is that the Supercharged muscle car may have over 600hp this time out. It’s hard to tell much about the car in the video thanks to all the camo, but we can see quad exhaust pipes, a chin spoiler and a differently-shaped grille with larger openings than on the regular Camaro.
I’d expect the next ZL1 to be considerably faster than the current car. Chevrolet cut about 200 pounds off the base model Camaro, and weight reduction does wonders for track performance.
