Chevy Silverado High Desert Reminds Us of the Avalanche

Chevy has announced a new package that truck buyers can choose for their new Silverado trucks called the High Desert package. This package adds features that remind me very much of the rather homely Avalanche truck/SUV.

The High Desert package is available on LT, LTZ, and High Country trims and brings a new cargo system that is lockable and water resistant. This means you could have an oddly named High Country High Desert truck.

The High Desert High Country is available with Magnetic Ride Control for improved handling and ride damping, while LTZ and High Country trims get 22-inch wheels and all-terrain tires. On LT trim trucks, 20-inch wheels are included with all season tires.

The truck’s fancy cargo system includes a lockable storage system that installs over the bed of the truck and brings dual outside storage bins. The bed’s contents are then protected by a three-piece hard tonneau cover. It’s unclear if the cargo and storage system is removable to allow for full use of the bed for hauling, presumably it is.

Chevy says the goal of the High Desert package is to provide a truck with the utility of a Silverado, along with the luxury of a Suburban.
