The Mercedes-AMG division of Mercedes-Benz is tasked with making cars go faster. The AMG models are always the special ones. They’re the ones we’re always looking forward to driving. They also get their hands on many of the vehicles in the Mercedes lineup. That’s why it should come as no surprise that their latest creation is based on the GLE SUV. The Mercedes-AMG GLE43 is the ninth 43 version of a vehicle to come from the three pointed star.

The GLE43 replaces the GLE400 model for 2017. The 43 models aren’t the big 63 and 65 versions of the cars, but are still breathed on by the boffins at AMG. Powering the GLE43 is a 3.0L biturbo V6 making 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft. of torque. Power is sent to a performance-oriented all-wheel drive through a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The GLE43 looks different than the normal GLE, too. It has custom interior appointments and special AMG branding. Additionally, the GLE43 has steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters to help get the most out of the transmission.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Mercedes-Benz without being safe, and the GLE43 is available with all the technology you’d expect from a modern luxury vehicle. Mercedes calls their safety systems Attention Assist and Pre-Safe, which include lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

Expect the GLE43 SUV to go on sale early next year. We’ll have pricing as the vehicle gets closer to launch.

Performance Mercedes models always seem to sell well, and we expect the new GLE43 to do the same.
