Every FIAT 500 Gets a Turbo Boost in 2018

Every FIAT 500 being sold in the US for the 2018 model year will now sport a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Plus, that engine has been upgraded to make about 34% more power than the prior version. The new engine makes 135 horsepower and 150 lb-ft. of torque. In a car that small and light, that’s going to make a big difference compared to the 101 hp and 98 lb-ft. of torque the old engine made.

That also substantially narrows the performance gap between the Pop and Lounge models and the sporty Abarth, which still has 160 horses and 183 lb-ft. of torque this year. Both of those models also get performance brakes and suspension, a backup camera, and a spoiler. However, the Pop and Lounge won’t get the growly exhaust note of the angry little Abarth, nor the complimentary day on track at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving that comes with it.
