Every FIAT 500 Gets a Turbo Boost in 2018

Every FIAT 500 being sold in the US for the 2018 model year will now sport a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Plus, that engine has been upgraded to make about 34% more power than the prior version. The new engine makes 135 horsepower and 150 lb-ft. of torque. In a car that small and light, that’s going to make a big difference compared to the 101 hp and 98 lb-ft. of torque the old engine made.

That also substantially narrows the performance gap between the Pop and Lounge models and the sporty Abarth, which still has 160 horses and 183 lb-ft. of torque this year. Both of those models also get performance brakes and suspension, a backup camera, and a spoiler. However, the Pop and Lounge¬†won’t get the growly exhaust note of the angry little Abarth, nor the complimentary day on track at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving that comes with it.
