Ford Shares 2021 F-150 Towing and Payload Specs

With the delivery of its first 2021 F-150 pickups just around the corner, Ford has shared official specs for the payload and towing capacities for the truck, and each of its six available engines. The entry-level version of the 2021 F-150 uses a 3.3-liter V6 engine offering 1,985 lb. of maximum payload and 8,200 lb. maximum conventional towing. The next rung up the ladder puts a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 under the hood with 2,480 lb. payload and 10,100 lb. towing.

The venerable 5.0-liter V-8 engine offers the highest max payload at 3,325 lb. while delivering 13,000 lb. of conventional towing. Typically we think of diesel engines offering more payload and towing capacity than gas-powered engines, but Ford’s 3.0-liter Power Stroke offers just 1,840 lb. maximum payload, the least of any version, but a solid 12,100 lb. towing limit.

The most F-150 towing capability comes from the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which can handle a 3,250 lb. payload, and tow up to 14,000 lb. Despite having the most torque of any F-150 pickup ever, the 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid drops down to 2,120 lb. of payload and 12,700 lb. towing, presumably because of the added weight of its battery and motor. Ford also offered up full horsepower and torque specs for each engine, which are listed below:
