The Ford Bronco DR Is a V8-Powered Factory Desert Racer

Ford has announced something that off-road racing enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear. The Bronco DR is a limited-edition production desert racing truck based on the four-door Bronco SUV. Rather than utilizing a smaller displacement turbo engine like the production Bronco, Ford fits the DR with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine.

Ford is mum on exactly how much horsepower and torque the engine will produce in the Bronco DR, but it has said it’s targeting more than 400 horsepower. We know in Mustang duty, the engine makes 460 horsepower. In addition to being fitted with the V8, the Bronco has been outfitted with numerous body and chassis modifications for high-speed desert racing.

Ready for Baja racing, the custom SUV will offer an approach angle of 47 degrees, a departure angle of 37 degrees, and a breakover angle of 33 degrees. It features a 65-gallon fuel tank, four-wheel disc brakes, and electric power-assisted steering. It rolls on 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3 tires and is fitted with Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV Dampers and a safety cage, bringing its weight to over 6000 pounds. Ford also utilizes a host of other racing hardware upgrades to help the vehicle survive the grueling Baja 1000.

Ford will build a limited run of 50 Bronco DRs, with a price starting in the mid-$200,000 range.
