GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Range Not as High as Originally Hoped for

We’ve known about the GMC Hummer electric vehicle for a while now. It’s an impressive ride that is big, bulky, and packs up to 1000 electric horses under the hood. GMC has been promising since they revealed the vehicle was a driving range of about 350 miles per charge. Recently, GMC head Duncan Aldred confirmed the actual EPA estimated driving range for the Edition 1 of 329 miles.

While that’s 21 miles less than GMC hoped for, Aldred was quick to point out that cheaper versions of the EV in the future should have longer driving ranges. Edition 1 is packed with powerful motors and every feature imaginable, adding weight and impacting driving range.

Cheaper versions with less powerful motors and fewer features should be able to hit the 350-mile driving range without a problem. GMC has also confirmed that 80 percent of the 125,000 reservations for the Hummer have been for the Edition 1, which will start shipping to customers this December. About half of those people have put down a $100 reservation fee. It seems strange to require a $100 reservation fee for an electric vehicle that costs over $100,000. Indeed, many people who made a reservation for the Hummer won’t follow through and purchase.
