Tornado Forces Chevrolet to Destroy 122 New C8 Corvettes

On December 11, Kentucky was hit hard with tornadoes. Lives were lost, and homes, businesses were destroyed. Among the damaged buildings were the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park and the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. Chevrolet has now confirmed that the destruction left in the wake of the tornado will force it to destroy a significant number of brand-new C8 Corvettes.

Chevrolet says that at this time, 122 new Corvettes will have to be destroyed and inspections are ongoing. Additional cars might have to be destroyed as well. It’s unclear if any components from damaged Corvettes can be salvaged or if they will simply be scrapped and recycled.

Reports also indicate there was a fire on top of the Corvette manufacturing plant caused by a ruptured fuel line. Unfortunately, dealers who had placed orders for cars that were destroyed will have to submit a new order. However, Chevrolet has said replacement orders will move to the head of the line for assembly.
