Ford F-150 Lightning Production Increased to 150,000 Units Annually
Ford is betting big on fully electric vehicles, and one of the most anticipated is its F-150 Lightning pickup truck. Ford confirmed today that it has plans to nearly double production capacity for the truck to 150,000 vehicles per year due to “soaring customer demand.”
Ford also confirmed the Lightning is moving into the final pre-production phase with pickups rolling off the assembly line at the Rouge Electric vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan. The first vehicles produced will be used for real-world durability testing and will be driven thousands of miles before customer deliveries begin this spring.
Ford also confirmed that the first wave of Lightning reservation holders would be able to convert their reservations into orders this Thursday, January 6. Additional reservation holders will be invited to place orders in phases in the coming months. Ford says reservation holders who want to order the truck but don’t get invites for the 2022 model year will have the opportunity to order trucks for future model years.
Increasing capacity for the Lightning comes shortly after Ford announced its plans to produce 200,000+ units per year for its Mach-E electric crossover by 2023. The automaker says it will have the capacity to produce 600,000 battery-electric vehicles annually within 24 months.
