The Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept Is Hot as Magma

Genesis has been knocking it out of the park with its design, material choices, and driving dynamics of its vehicles. Now, the Korean luxury automaker is teasing us with its greatest object of desire yet – a coupe-inspired crossover slathered in a fiery orange paint called “Magma.”

While it shares a designation with the upscale GV80 SUV, the GV80 Coupe Concept is all about pushing boundaries. Gone is the gently-sloped roofline of the GV80, replaced with a sleek, fastback design that reduces drag and just looks plain awesome. Designed in collaboration between Hyundai Motor Company VP of Design SangYup Lee and Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, it’s a true thing of beauty.

Up front, it has a unique black grille with a “Double G-Matrix Pattern,” and below that, you’ll see large, functional air intakes. Genesis took its signature two-line lighting to the max by wrapping the lights around every corner of the car, with shocks of light on each side. The effect is dynamic and visually striking. The sporty SUV rolls on five-spoke forged aluminum wheels in black, and the whole thing has been tuned for performance.

Weight reduction is a hallmark of the GV80 Coupe Concept’s design as well. It has a carbon fiber roof, and its interior has been equipped with four carbon fiber-shelled Recaro racing seats and a roll bar in the back. That smoking hot Magma color shows up on the seatbacks and seatbelts as well.

While Genesis hasn’t revealed any performance specs for the GV80 Coupe Concept, it’s sure to offer more power than the GV80’s top-end 375 horsepower turbocharged V6. While it is currently only been shown in concept form, reps from the company have stated that a production version is in the works.
