Automakers continue to bet on Americans’ love for trucks with another incoming chonker of an EV. The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is the third electric truck in GMC’s lineup, but it shares an eye-catching yet genuinely useful feature with the Hummer EV and SUV.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has four-wheel steering. This allows it to take on tighter turns, but it also allows it to do what GMC calls CrabWalk. At low speeds, you can drive the vehicle diagonally by aligning all four wheels to the same angle. Watch it dance with the Hummer EV and SUV:
Neat eh? Just don’t forget that whatever you’re towing probably can’t do the same thing. Speaking of which, the truck has an estimated 10,000 lb. max towing capacity and 1,450 lb. max payload capacity.
To make room for your cargo, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 lets you drop the midgate down. In that configuration, and with the tailgate open as well, you get a truck bed floor of almost 11 ft.
The truck also has plenty of power to go along with all that capacity. It can boost up to 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, and when you need a bit of speed, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has an estimated 440 miles of range, a 10% increase from GMC’s original published estimate. It works with 350 kilowatt DC fast-charging, allowing it to get enough juice for 100 miles with just a 10-minute charge.
As with other modern EVs, the truck can also act as a power source. It can share 10.2 kilowatts with your other electronics and can be configured to have up to 10 power outlets, with both 120 V and 240 V options.
GMC is naturally mighty proud of the Denali name and thinks that the truck’s interior lives up to that line. Perhaps the pictures don’t do the wood and chrome accents justice.
Thankfully, in addition to the vertical 16.8″ touchscreen display at the center, some of the controls still have corresponding physical buttons. One thing that owners will most likely approve of is the Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, which should help give you a comfortable feel regardless if you’re alone or with the whole crew, and allows you to lower ride height for easy loading or raise it for off-roading.
The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be available this summer with an MSRP of $99,495, although reservations are currently full at the time of writing.
