2025 Ford Maverick Gets an All-Wheel-Drive Hybrid and a Sweet Lobo Trim

The latest update to Ford’s hit compact truck finally lets customers configure a hybrid setup with an all-wheel-drive powertrain. But the refresh also has something for those who want to stick to the EcoBoost engine, in the form of an on-road performance trim for the 2025 Ford Maverick.

The new hybrid all-wheel-drive Maverick gets up to 40 mpg, just a tad lower than the hybrid front-wheel drive’s 42 mpg. That’s more than an acceptable trade-off for better traction in unfavorable conditions.

Curiously, the 2025 Ford Maverick’s 2-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine is estimated to max out at 238 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, down from the 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft. max figures in the current model. But the hybrid setup in the 2025 model still gets the up to 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft. of torque.

The towing package that boosts the Maverick’s max towing capacity from 1500 lb. to 4000 lb. returns as well, as well as the Flexbed and Integrated Tether system for customizing the truck bed.

Aside from the new powertrain option and minor front facelift, the incoming Maverick also has a couple of new assistive technologies. There’s now a 360° camera, as well as a feature called Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. It uses the rear camera plus radars to align the hitch with the trailer coupler, then takes over the speed, steering, and brakes. Then there’s the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which has a dedicated knob that lets the driver indicate which direction the trailer should go when reversing.

Last but definitely not least, the new Maverick Lobo trim is here for owners who occasionally feel the need for speed. The Maverick Lobo has a lowered ride height, tuned shocks and steering, and the added the same dual-piston front brake calipers found in the European variant of the Ford Focus ST.

This variant also gets a track mode called Lobo drive mode, which enables torque vectoring for improved grip and stability when attacking corners.

In terms of aesthetics, the Lobo also has all-black 19-in wheels, a distinct front fascia, as well as color-matched bumpers and rocker moldings. I think it has a fun toy-like look.

The 2025 Ford Maverick is available to order now, with deliveries for the XL, XLT, Lariat, and Tremor trims scheduled for late 2024. The Lobo on the other hand should be in the hands of its owners by early 2025. Pricing starts at $26,295.
