2026 Subaru Uncharted: New Sub-Compact CUV Adds to the EV Lineup

Loyal Subaru customers only reluctantly leave the family when looking for a new car. One of the reasons they were looking elsewhere in recent years was that Subaru was late to offer anything with electrification. Things are changing at the Japanese automaker – in a big way.

Subaru unveiled the 2026 Uncharted at a live event in New York City, attended by members of the automotive media. The all-new sub-compact 2026 Uncharted CUV becomes the third all-electric model in the Subaru line-up, joining the new 2026 Trail Seeker SUV and the significantly refreshed and upgraded 2026 Solterra SUV that was first released in 2023. These EVs join the gasoline/electric hybrid versions of Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek. In two years, Subaru has gone from no models with electrification to having five by mid-2026.

The 2026 Uncharted EV offers front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options, making it ideal for city dwellers and those who are a bit more adventurous, wanting to do some light off-roading. The Uncharted should sit well with Subaru owners, giving them yet another option to stay in the family.

95Octane will get behind the wheel of the 2026 Uncharted sometime late in 2025 or early 2026, just before it is in dealers. We will write a full review of its features, performance, ride comfort, and pricing. Until then, this is some of what we know so far.

Closing Thoughts: 2026 Subaru Uncharted

With a little help from its partner Toyota (the Uncharted is related to the just-introduced CH-R EV), Subaru is on track to offer a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or battery electric in most of the models in its lineup, giving Subaru customers a selection of low- or no-emissions cars.

This is “Game On!” thinking when it comes to broadening their electrification line-up. As we said, things are changing at Subaru in a big way.
