Japan is home to both some very cool things, and some very weird things. One of the coolest things is a racing series that sees Japanese drivers hooning old short-wheelbase Dodge vans around a racetrack. Apparently, the sport grew out of a common practice for motorcycle racers to buy these vans and use them to haul gear and bikes to the track.

I always loved the look of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It combined the best elements of an SUV and a station wagon, with its tall body and classic “woodie” paneling on its sides. Over its many years in production, it typically packed a hefty V8 engine.

The guys at Hennessey Performance recently started producing the first of their Maximus 1000 Jeep Gladiators, and to celebrate the launch, they released a little bit of video footage of the beastly custom truck taking to the desert.

Over the years, we’ve seen some truly unusual kit cars. Oftentimes, they’re designed to make less expensive sports cars look like Lamborghinis, Ferraris, or other exotics. But in the case of the Gagliardi Vex, it’s a unique vehicle unto itself, borrowing bits and pieces from a variety of supercar styles.

Friends of mine know that I’m a huge fan of the Jaguar F-TYPE. In fact, I daily drive one of these British beauties – a 2014 V8S convertible in Firesand Orange. I’ve gone as far as ECU tuning my car for a few extra horses too.

While the classic Ford GT40 is an incredible collector’s car, the fact is that they’re incredibly rare and expensive, and have zero in the way of modern conveniences. On the other hand, this replica 1965 GT40 by Active Power Cars looks every bit as awesome as Ford’s original race car, but is equipped with a modern drivetrain and interior.

Back in the 1970s, converting Volkswagen bugs into other things was a pretty popular pastime. I suppose it was the relative simplicity of their chassis design, and easily removable bodies that made them easy targets.
