When you say “EV,” you don’t normally think of a car that can reach over 150 mph. That is exactly what the Hyundai Ioniq HEV has done though. Hyundai took one of the cars and prepped it for a land speed record challenge out on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Boys of Bonneville: Racing on a Ribbon of Salt tells the story of David Abbott “Ab” Jenkins, a building contractor from Salt Lake City, Utah who decided to try to single-handedly break every existing land speed record on his beloved Bonneville Salt Flats.

Jeff Gerner of FRP Engineering took to the Bonneville Salt Flats outside of Salt Lake City, Utah in his Audi S4 with a 136 cubic inch engine that he pushes more than 1,000 horsepower out of and set the world record speed for a production sedan.
