Serious car enthusiasts will tell you, there’s nothing quite like a pop-up headlight. These design relics not only gave cars more of a “face,” they offered a great way to improve aerodynamics while driving during the daytime, while still offering illumination at night.

Audi has announced that its first use of laser headlights in the US will be on the 2017 R8 V10 plus exclusive edition. The car will get full LED headlights supplemented by a laser high beam module.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an organization that independently crash tests vehicles for insurance companies. Their tests are typically more challenging than the government’s own crash testing, and their procedures are not influenced by the government.
