It’s been a while since we saw a Civic Type R. In fact, the last production version of Honda’s sportiest Civic went out of production in 2010. Now, Honda is prepping a new version of the hot hatch, and if this concept sketch from Honda Design is any indication, we like what we see.

Concept cars run the gamut from being insanely futuristic or avant garde ideas which never make it into production to designs that are extremely close to an actual production vehicle. And while not every concept car leads to an actual roadworthy ride, most of them are at least fun to look at.

This artist’s rendering of the planned Honda Civic WTCC shows Honda’s plans for its 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) car, and it looks incredible. Due to a change in the WTCC regulations for 2014, Honda is able to increase the aerodynamics along with the tire width so we also see new wheel arch extensions.

The Honda FCEV Concept was one of the most futuristic looking cars appearing at the 2013 L.A. Auto Show. The FCEV (“Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle”) is powered by an electric motor which gets its power from a hydrogen fuel cell.

The Honda S660 Concept was shown at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show and looks to be a fun concept for a two-seater convertible, perhaps recalling the Honda del Sol a bit. This open-top roadster has futuristic styling and a “Super cockpit” interior, as Honda describes it.
