Hyundai Veloster

For as long as it has existed in the Hyundai lineup, the Veloster has been a fun little car to look at. I’ve always loved its low and lean hatchback styling, and its quirky, asymmetrical 3-door layout.

Hot on the heels of the reveal of the newly redesigned Veloster at NAIAS 2018, Hyundai took wraps off a special enthusiast model which could finally be the Korean hot hatch we’ve been hoping for. The Veloster N is the first of what I hope will be a long line of performance-oriented Hyundai models from the company’s new “N” division, and it looks like a winner so far.

For those of you who yearn for a coupe-style hatchback, yet still value easy access to the back bench, there is one option that stands out from the swarm: The Hyundai Veloster. I was left both intrigued and puzzled by the Rally Edition model, with its wild blue aero and aesthetics setting off both interior and exterior accents.

Hyundai has teamed up with automotive render and design house Gurnade to bring the Gurnade Veloster Concept to SEMA 2016. The car is much more focused on handling and track performance than raw power. It has modest engine upgrades with a cat back exhaust, ECU tune, cold air intake, and a blow off valve. 

I’ve always liked the Hyundai Veloster a lot. From the idea of it being the “attainable halo car” to the risky design decisions and perfect proportions it has tickled my fancy over and over again. The Turbo is nice, but what I really want to see is a more hardcore version.

If you’re like me, you have a weird soft spot for the Hyundai Veloster. It has a nice attractive shape, and the asymmetric door layout is bizarre, but it really kinda works. When the Veloster Turbo dropped my first thought was “I wish this had AWD” and my impression of it was that it wasn’t bad, but I would have liked tighter suspension and a bit more excitement.
