The Lexus LC 500 and LC 500h are the result of one of the more incredible stories in recent automotive history, in which CEO Akio Toyoda gave Lexus the green light to build a concept car almost exactly as it was shown – a true rarity in the industry.

The idea of spending more than $90,000 on a vehicle you’re going to use to haul kids and groceries in isn’t exactly something most of us would consider doing, nor is it the kind of money most of us would spend on an off-roader.

Last year, when Akio Toyoda unveiled the LC 500 in Detroit in front of a room full of jaded automotive journalists, he vowed that the words “Lexus” and “boring” would never be used in the same sentence again.

With recent luxury-performance releases like the RC F, GS F, and LC 500, it’s easy to forget that Lexus’ bread and butter is still its SUV lineup. While its best-seller is still the RX, there’s also the sporty NX, the limo-like LX, and the surprisingly rugged GX.

Lexus’ latest concept vehicle isn’t a car or an SUV, but a yacht. The company is clear up front that it has no intention of ever producing boats, rather this is a one of a kind concept.

At the 2017 NAIAS show, Lexus took wraps off the latest edition of its LS flagship sedan. The new LS will launch in late 2017, starting with the 2018 LS 500, a luxurious and refined new take on the executive sedan that Lexus built its reputation on.
