Volvo Announces XC90 400hp Hybrid Powertrain

Volvo continues to tease consumers with details of its all-new XC90 SUV, recently releasing details on the vehicle’s new interior and technologies and now lifting the hood, so to speak, on the powertrain options for Volvo’s flagship SUV. The top-of-the-line XC90 T8 will come with a hybrid drivetrain consisting of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Drive-E engine having both a turbocharger and supercharger mated to a plug-in 80hp electric motor. The combination results in a substantive 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. Driver’s can elect to zip around town in electric-only mode for about 18 miles before needing to kick on the gasoline engine.

Other powertrain options include the D5 twin turbo diesel engine with 225 hp, the D4 turbo diesel engine with 190 hp along with two gasoline engines, T6 turbo engine with supercharger and turbo with 320 hp and a T5 with 254 hp.
