2015 BMW X4: All New Crossover Unveiled

We no longer need to rely on a blurry Instagram image, BMW has lifted the veil off the 2015 X4 at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and, from what we can see, the new smaller version of the X6/larger version of the X3 doesn’t hold any real surprises. The X4 carries over the styling and details from the rest of the X series, placing it in the middle of the lineup. The X4 doesn’t bring over many of the design cues from the Active Tourer concept we saw last year, so perhaps we can expect another new BMW to be announced later in year.

The X4 is based on the same platform as the X3, but BMW intends the X4 to be a sportier version. with the larger front air intakes, the swooping roofline, and exclusive X4-designed rear LED taillights. The driver and passenger seats are a tiny bit lower than in the X3 (0.75 inches). The vehicle comes with either BMW’s 2.0-liter, 240-horse turbo four-cylinder with the xDrive28i model or the 3.0-liter 300-horse turbo straight six in the xDrive35i. Either way, an 8-speed automatic transmission is the only choice.

The backseat has 40/20/40 split seats and three-across seating. It’ll be interesting to see how much headroom remains after BMW pushed down the roof in the back for its new sweeping lines.

The X4 will go on sale in the U.S. following the New York Auto Show in April. The xDrive28i will begin at $45,625 and the xDrive35i starting at $48,925.
