Ford Takes on the Cadillac ELR Poolside Ad

Cadillac got a lot of mixed reactions to its Poolside ad for the 2014 Cadillac ELR (if you need a refresher, check it out below). The ad first aired during the Winter Olympics and featured an apparently successful American businessman explaining that we Americans work hard because that’s how we’re made and “all the stuff” is the upside to all the hard work.

But Ford also makes electric cars, and in this ad for the Ford C-Max entitled Upside, the Ford customer explains that she works hard trying to make the world better and helping the city grow good, green vegetables, that’s the upside of “givin’ a damn.”

We think Ford’s very clever to use the buzz about the Cadillac ad to target their potential C-Max buyers. And Cadillac has said that many people took its Poolside ad the wrong way, so you can make up your own mind on each.
