Porsche 918 Spyder Zips Electrically through London

Written by Paul Strauss | July 4, 2014

Despite being a 887 horsepower supercar, the Porsche 918 Spyder can still cruise in complete silence on short runs. While its hybrid drivetrain was designed to improve performance and fuel efficiency, it also has the side-effect of being completely silent when operating in electric mode. In fact, the car can drive up to 20 miles without a sip of gasoline when put into “E-power” mode. And unlike some hybrids, the 918 still has nearly 300 horsepower available to it in this mode – this, combined with the instant torque of electric motors means the car is still incredibly nimble, even with the gas engine switched off.

In this short promo clip, Porsche Chief Driving Instructor Gordon Robertson takes the $800,000+ car through the streets of London, England to show it off to passersby.
