Shmee Drives the Porsche 918 Spyder

The Porsche 918 Spyder is arguably one of the most exciting cars being made today. Powered by a parallel full-hybrid drivetrain capable of outputting a total of 887 horsepower, and 944 lb.-ft. of torque in 7th gear, the Spyder is one of the most powerful production cars ever.

Recently, our old pal Shmee150 got to spend some quality time behind the wheel of the Spyder, and not only shared his driving experience, but some in-depth details about the cockpit and the car’s various driving modes. What’s truly impressive to me is how powerful and fast the car still is in pure electric mode, with 279 horsepower flowing to wheels. Of course, Sport mode is where all the fun happens, with both the electric motors and 4.6-liter V8 engaged.

What I love about the video is that Shmee doesn’t just talk about the performance of the 918, but also discusses some of the drawbacks of the car, including its extremely loud cabin, and somewhat uncomfortable seats. I can speak from experience that the seats are cramped, as I had difficulty getting in and out of the 918 Spyder on display at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

You can check out footage of Shmee’s joyous first drive 918 Spyder in the video below:
