Ford Launches 2021 Transit Van Prep Packages as RV Sales Boom

Despite the coronavirus pandemic ravaging many sectors of the automotive industry, RV shipments have been extremely robust. Ford says that in July 2020, RV shipments were the highest seen in 40 years at 43,035 units sold. With that in mind, the automaker has announced some new prep packages for the 2021 Ford Transit van.

The goal is to make it easier for outdoor enthusiasts to order the Transit van ready to go for their specific needs. Packages include the Motorhome Prep Package that now includes Adaptive Cruise Control and an economy-rated version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.

There’s also an RV Prep Package that includes driver-assist features like a side-sensing system and Adaptive Cruise Control along with heavy-duty trailer tow capability. It also has fog lamps, four-way manual swivel drivers and passenger seats, and an eight-speaker sound system.

Another new package is called the Adventure Prep Package, which includes all-wheel drive, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, 3.73:1 limited-slip differential rear axle, heavy-duty front axle, and privacy glass. Driver-assist features include Adaptive Cruise Control, reverse and side-sensing systems, Blind Spot Information System, SYNC 3, an eight-inch color touchscreen, dual USB ports, and more.

The new van packages will be available this fall and will be produced at the Kansas City Assembly Plant.
