Overlanding is a popular pastime for many people that involves taking specially outfitted vehicles into off-grid settings and still living comfortably for short periods. Ford’s full-size Expedition SUV is new for 2022, and for the first time, is getting a Timberline series. Ford says the Timberline is the most off-road capable Expedition it has ever produced.
The Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept vehicle takes the Timberline even further. The concept has a custom FOX suspension increasing its ground clearance by two inches, for a total of 12.6 inches. The custom SUV rides on 17-inch Method Race Wheels with Bead Grip technology, shod with 35-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires.
Ford also fitted the Timberland Off-Grid Concept with lots of components from its Outfitter collection of accessories. The upgrades include a rooftop tent with crossbars attaching to the roof rails, a transmission shield, a Nomadic 180-degree awning, and a portable privacy room shower. The concept is also fitted with numerous lights to help with nighttime visibility.
Other features include a custom aluminum dual storage drawer unit with a camping mattress for two people inside the vehicle. The Expedition also has a battery system for power when off-grid and tows an Expedition Series Trailer from Turtleback, complete with a camp kitchen and more.
