Mustang GT May Lose Horsepower for 2022

Anyone who’s looked at sports cars and compared price and power amongst models will find that one of the best bangs for the buck is the Ford Mustang GT. For 2021, all Mustang GT cars used a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 460 horsepower. For those who wanted more, the 2021 Mach 1 bumped that up to 480 horses.
A new report is making the rounds the claims Ford dealers have been warned the power output for both versions of the Mustang using a standard 5.0-liter V8 engine will decrease. It’s rumored that the regular V8 will now make 450 horsepower while the Mach 1 produces 470 horsepower.
It’s unclear if both cars will maintain their 420 lb-ft. rating for torque. The report says the reason for less power for the new models is that more strict evaporative emissions standards passed years ago are rolling out for the 2022 model year. However, it’s worth noting that Ford has yet to confirm the power decrease for the cars. It’s also unclear if other Mustang models will also see a similar power decline or if this is unique to the naturally-aspirated V8.
