VinFast VF Wild Electric Pickup Truck Concept Is the Right Size

Vietnamese automaker VinFast debuted its VF Wild electric pickup truck at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. The mid-size truck measures 209″ long and 79″ wide, making it roughly the same size as a Ford Ranger, right in the sweet spot for many buyers. The truck features modern styling with a rugged touch and was designed in collaboration with Aussie studio GoMotiv.
The electric pickup offers a flexible bed that expands from five feet long to eight feet long by opening its power mid-gate and folding down the rear seats. Like many concept vehicles, it rolls on disproportionately large wheels that are neither practical for a pickup nor efficient for an EV. They look fantastic, but I’d expect if they make a production version, the wheels will be smaller and have more sidewall.
Other concept car archetypes on display in the VF Wild are the skinny camera-based mirrors, lack of a B-pillar, and suicide doors. All of these look great on a concept but are unlikely to appear in a production model. The same goes for the futuristic floating seats inside.
VinFast recently entered the U.S. market with a lineup of electric crossovers and SUVs, the VF6, VF7, VF8, and VF9. While early reviews have complained about build and ride quality, I’m hopeful the well-funded company will take market feedback and improve over time. Just think about how far Hyundais and Kias have come since they arrived in America.
