Formula E: The Future of Motorsport

Written by Paul Strauss | May 19, 2014

It may be strange to think of a time when pro race cars won’t use internal combustion engines, but we’re already on the precipice of car races which run entirely on electricity. In this short documentary, XCAR takes a look at Formula E, which takes advantage of high torque motors, and silent, pollution-free drivetrains to permit races in cities.

The technologies developed for these high-performance electric vehicles not only will be used to improve race performance, but will eventually trickle down to consumer electric cars, improving range, power and handling.

Formula E racing will make its debut on the streets of Beijing, China on September 13, 2014.
