BMW and VW Team up to Install 100+ EV Chargers

BMW of North America and Volkswagen of North America have teamed up with ChargePoint to increase the number of available fast charging stations along the heavily traveled roads of America’s East and West coasts. The new initiative will help meet the growing demand for charging stations along the routes. In the first phase, nearly 100 DC Fast chargers will be installed across both coasts with future plans to expand the program across the country.

There are already more than 280,000 electric vehicles in the U.S., including the BMW i3i8, and the Volkswagen e-Golf. Each fast charging station will have either one or two 50 kW or 24 kW chargers fitted with the SAE Combo connector, the standard adopted by both German automakers. Of course, electric vehicle drivers will be able to locate and access the new chargers via ChargePoint’s mobile app, adding them to the more than 20,000 charging spots already available across North America.
