This Fiat Uno Has 8 Wheels for No Good Reason

While the idea of a 6×6 Mercedes G-wagon has tremendous appeal to me, it’s not necessarily the case that more wheels are always better. Take, for example, this ridiculous looking creation that recently turned up in Russia.

Russian auto-hacking channel Garage 54 love to do kinds of outlandish builds. In this case, they took what was once a stock Fiat Uno 70-S – a popular hatchback in Eastern Europe and other countries – and replaced its single rear axle with a set of three axles, giving the car a total of eight wheels and tires. It required some substantial cutting, welding, and reinforcing to squeeze in the extra wheels, which sit above and to the rear of the stock back axle.

The funny thing is that they didn’t go as far as to send any power to the rear, so it’s still just a front-wheel drive car. All those extra wheels appear to do nothing to improve the car’s handling. In fact, you can hear the engine and front wheels working extra hard to move all that weight and dealing with the added contact patch area from the extra tires.

To see the 8-wheeled Fiat in action and to see exactly how they managed to pull off this bit of unnecessary automotive surgery, check out Garage 54’s video clip below:
