Hybrid Cars and SUVs with the Best Driving Range

The cars that give you the longest driving range on a tank of gas are hybrids. The fuel efficiency of hybrid drivetrains means you can find vehicles that can go significantly more than 500 miles between gas stations. We’ve tallied a baker’s dozen cars with the best driving range you can buy today. While the Toyota Prius predictably performed well, there’s a luxury sports car on the list that may surprise you. Our list includes mostly 2024 model-year hybrid cars and SUVs, but not PHEVs. The range estimate listed is based on manufacturer-quoted combined fuel economy and fuel tank capacity, rounded to the nearest tenth of a mile.

Sharing underpinnings with the Toyota Camry but with about 40 more horsepower and a more luxurious interior, the base Lexus ES 300h gets 44 MPG combined. It has a relatively small 13.2-gallon fuel tank but can still drive 580.8 miles before needing refueling.

The Toyota Crown has a higher ride height than most sedans and is lower than a crossover. It drives like a car, though, and has a slick modern design that stands out from the crowd. With a combined fuel economy of 41 MPG and a 14.5-gallon fuel tank, it provides an impressive 594.5-mile driving range.

11. 2023 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Because Hyundai hasn’t started shipping a 2024 Elantra hybrid, we’re keeping the 2023 model on the list. It’s most efficient in its lightweight Blue trim, which averages 54 MPG. Usually, we’d be concerned about an 11-gallon gas tank, but this car will take you 594 miles before refueling.

10. 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

The Hyundai Sante Fe is getting a top-to-bottom redesign for 2024, but we don’t know when the hybrid will be available. However, the 2023 Santa Fe Hybrid Blue is worth a mention, with its 34 MPG combined fuel economy and 17.7-gallon fuel tank – resulting in a 601.8-mile driving range and making it the first vehicle on our list to break 600 miles.

The handsome Honda Accord Hybrid has a zippy 204-horsepower powertrain and rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels. Its 12.81-gallon tank and 48 MPG combined fuel economy give it 614.88 miles of driving range, enough to drive all the way from Oklahoma City to Nashville on a single tank.

8. 2024 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Outdoing the less expensive Highlander Hybrid LE by 1 MPG, the Hybrid XLE model of Toyota’s family-friendly SUV has a 36 MPG rating and a 17.1-gallon fuel tank, resulting in a total driving range of 615.6 miles.

7. 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid

Toyota nabs another spot on the list with the brand new 3-row Grand Highlander XLE, averaging 36 MPG and carrying a 17.17-gallon tank for a total driving range of 618.2 miles. Since Lexus only offers a plug-in hybrid of its similar TX SUV, it didn’t make the list.

6. 2024 Lexus RX 350h

Lexus and Toyota share a lot, so it’s no surprise they have several vehicles on the list. For 2024, the base Lexus RX 350h AWD model achieves an EPA average of 36 MPG. With an ample 17.2-gallon fuel tank, its driving range works out to 619.2 miles.

5. 2024 Lexus LC 500h

The sportiest car on the list is the hybrid version of the Lexus LC – the LC 500h. With a 354 horsepower rear-wheel drivetrain, it’s no slouch in the performance department. Not only does it achieve 29 MPG combined, but it also has a huge 22.2-gallon gas tank, giving it a range of 643.8 miles and making it a worthy contender as the best grand tourer you can buy today.

4. 2024 Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius LE sits near the middle of our list and is the most economical of the pack. With a base MSRP of $27,950, a 57 MPG combined fuel economy, and an 11.3-gallon tank, it’ll go 644.1 miles between fill-ups, and it won’t empty your bank account doing it.

3. 2024 Toyota Sienna

Toyota’s minivan is only available as a 2.5-liter hybrid these days and has sportier styling than competing models. Both the XSE and Platinum grades are well-equipped and average 36 MPG combined. A large 18-gallon tank means the Sienna can travel up to 648 miles before its fuel gauge points to “E.”

2. 2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid

Kia’s stylish Sorento SUV offers 37 MPG combined in its hybrid EX front-wheel drive variant. Thanks to a 17.7-gallon tank, it’s got a driving range of 654.9 miles, giving it the longest range you can get in a three-row hybrid SUV today.

1. 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (TIE)

We’re including this 2023 Sonata Hybrid because the 2024 model has yet to go on sale. But we anticipate that the refreshed 2024 Sonata Hybrid will retain the excellent range of last year’s model, which gets 52 MPG in its Blue trim and has a 13.2-gallon capacity for a best-in-class rating of 686.4 miles.

1. 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid (TIE)

While the Camry is getting a redesign for 2025, the current generation of Toyota’s popular sedan is still a fuel-sipping champ. The 2025 Camry LE Hybrid’s 52 MPG combined fuel economy is impressive. While its 13.2-gallon fuel tank is smaller than the gas model Camry to make room for its battery, it can still drive 686.4 miles on a tank, tying it for first place with the Sonata Hybrid.
