8 Things We Love About the Grand Wagoneer

When it comes to vehicles made by Jeep, there is none more luxuriously appointed than the Grand Wagoneer. I recently spent a week with the Grand Wagoneer Series III Obsidian, getting to know its many comforts, from its posh interior materials to its voluminous cabin, its smooth ride, and its fantastic array of technology. Here are a few of the things that make this Wagoneer so Grand.

Displays for Days

A fully outfitted Grand Wagoneer has a whopping nine LCD screens scattered throughout its cabin. Orchestrated by Stellantis’ industry-leading UConnect 5 multimedia system, the displays include a widescreen digital instrument panel, a 12-inch touchscreen providing access to navigation and media controls, a lower center console touchscreen screen for controlling the front and rear seats, a full-color head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, a second-row touchscreen for zoned climate control, and a pair of second-row headrest displays with integrated Amazon Fire TV to stream video via the SUV’s built-in Wi-Fi network. A passenger-side touchscreen can control navigation and the rear seat entertainment system remotely and has an HDMI input for watching video. A privacy filter keeps this screen from distracting the driver.

Stress-Reducing Seating

Grand Wagoneer Obsidian Massage Seat Controls

Massaging seats might sound indulgent, but if you spend more than $100,000 on an SUV, you deserve to enjoy something special every time you drive. The front massage seats in the Grand Wagoneer are extraordinary, offering five massage programs and three intensity levels to help relieve sore muscles and decrease tension in your shoulders, back, and backside. My favorite was the Rock Climb, but the Waterfall comes a close second. Combined with two-zone adjustable seat heaters, it’s the perfect cure for stress while sitting in a traffic jam or for relieving fatigue on long road trips.

Calm and Cushioned Cruising

The Grand Wagoneer rides high and provides a well-cushioned ride on any terrain. It has front and rear double wishbone suspension, which helps it handle well for such a large vehicle. A four-wheel air suspension system sops up bumps, turning potholes and rough terrain into a soft ride through the clouds. This system can also adjust ride height for easier passenger loading, improved highway aerodynamics, or increased ground clearance if you decide to take this Jeep off road. Combined with excellent cabin insulation, you’ll enjoy a quiet and smooth ride on par with an elegant limousine.

Luxurious Leather

The quilted Palermo leather seating and trim inside the Series III Grand Wagoneer is buttery-smooth, bringing the luxury up a notch over standard leather. It looks fantastic in this Tupelo Brown color contrasted with black trim and tactile microsuede on the headliner and wrapped around the pillars.

Marvelous McIntosh Audio

Grand Wagoneer Obsidian Macintosh Audio

I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to sound systems, so just throwing a bunch of speakers and amps at your car audio isn’t enough to impress me. On the other hand, the 23-speaker McIntosh Reference audio system in the Grand Wagoneer deserves every accolade. It produces crisp, studio-quality audio wherever you sit in the cabin, and 3D surround processing helps create a wide-open soundstage. With 1375 watts of amplification, it can crank out a tremendous amount of volume without the slightest perceptible distortion and without fatiguing your ears.

Cavernous Cargo Capacity

Grand Wagoneer Obsidian Cargo Space

If you need to haul stuff, the Grand Wagoneer has got you covered. With its second and third rows folded, it’ll hold a massive 94.2 cubic feet of cargo. And if that’s not enough for you, the long-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer L has a total of 112.9 cubic feet. Thanks to its tall, boxy roofline and wide liftgate, it’ll carry even the most ambitious hauls from your Homegoods and Target shopping sprees. With the second row in use, it’ll still carry 71 cubic feet and 27.5 cubic feet with all three rows in use. In the Grand Wagoneer L, those numbers increase to 88.8 cubic feet and 44.2 cubic feet, respectively. The SUV can tow up to 5620 pounds, plenty for a small trailer carrying jet skis, dirt bikes, or side-by-side UTV.

A Luminous Light Show

Grand Wagoneer Obsidian Door Lights and Puddle Lights

Approach the Grand Wagoneer at night with the key fob in your pocket, and it automatically activates a welcome lighting sequence. Each door handle has bright white LED backlights, while Puddle lights and Wagoneer logos illuminate the ground beneath your feet. The LED taillights fade up and down smoothly when you unlock or lock the SUV too.

Two-Tone Trimmings

Grand Wagoneer Obsidian White and Black

The Obsidian grade’s black accents perfectly contrast the Bright White paint. There are no half-measures here, with glossy black trim around the entire lower body, a black 7-bar grille, black badging, a black roof, black mirror caps, and enormous 22″ polished aluminum wheels in black. For black-on-black stealth, go for the Midnight Sky and Black clear coat paint.

Also… A Spectacular Sunset

Grand Wagoneer Obsidian Digital Mirror + Sunset View

I already mentioned the digital rearview mirror, but I couldn’t resist posting this unobstructed view of a glorious Great Plains sunset that I caught on its crisp LCD screen while enjoying a late afternoon ride in the Grand Wagoneer.
