Nissan is ending its production of the R35 GT-R for the North American market. As a farewell to this beloved generation, the automaker will release two limited edition variants of the 2024 GT-R. The T-spec Takumi Edition and the Skyline Edition bear minor cosmetic exclusives. Nonetheless, fans of Godzilla will most likely appreciate these little touches.
The T-spec Takumi Edition honors the eponymous master craftsmen who assemble each R35 engine by hand. It has a really nice Midnight Purple paint, which appears to shimmer and take on a blue-green hue, depending on the lighting.
The T-spec Takumi Edition also has an exclusive color scheme for the interior trim that Nissan calls Mori Green.
It would have been nice if they made the black and grey parts a different color as well.
The T-spec Takumi gets the same NISMO goodies as the vanilla 2024 GT-R T-spec, including 20-inch gold Rays wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, dynamic control tuning, and wider front fenders.
Last but not least, the lettering on the T-spec Takumi’s engine badge is etched in red instead of the usual black. Apparently, this isn’t just for show. Nissan says, “The red engine badge signifies an elevated level of attention to precise engine tolerances and component balancing during assembly of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6.” The implication isn’t appealing for owners of other R35 GT-Rs, so it’s probably for the best that Nissan didn’t elaborate.
The Skyline Edition, on the other hand, is based on the 2024 GT-R Premium. Fans will no doubt recognize that its selling point is its iconic Bayside Blue paint, which is no longer a standard option in the R35 generation.
Curiously, Nissan claims that the color was last seen in the 50th Anniversary Edition from 2019. But our editor-in-chief, Paul Strauss, reviewed the 2023 GT-R Premium using a unit that was also clad in Bayside Blue. But that review unit also had a CD player, so maybe Paul got to test a unicorn.
In any case, the color is timeless and would look great in any generation of the GT-R. The other nice touch in the Skyline Edition is a matching Sora Blue interior, although this one may not be as universally liked. Again, I don’t think the usual black plastic pairs well with the unique trim.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if it looked much nicer in person.
Both variants will be available from select US Nissan dealers this summer. The T-spec Takumi Edition will start at $151,090, while the Skyline Edition has an MSRP of $131,090. The press release didn’t make it clear if there will be only fewer than 200 of each edition or in total, but either way these will surely sell out quickly.
