It might sound crazy, but there was a time when rally racing wasn’t controlled by all-wheel drive vehicles. In this video that dates back some 35 years, you’ll get to see classic Lancia 037s take on a pack of Audi AWD quattros in the WRC Monte Carlo Rally.

The Lancia Stratos is one of those classic cars that many gearheads would love to have in their collection. But it’s not exactly the easiest or cheapest car to come by, never mind the fact that ’70s and ’80s Italian sportscars aren’t exactly known for their reliability.

The 1980s weren’t exactly one of the best decades for cars – especially here in America. That said, there were still a handful of pretty great cars, like this awesome Giugiaro designed 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale.

While there have been numerous kit cars which mimic the classic Lancia Stratos, there’s nothing quite like an original. In this clip from the object of my envy Marchettino, he managed to score a ride in a beautiful candy apple red Stratos HF.

In his latest clip, Tim “Shmee” Burton headed to the Brooklands Museum Auto Italia event, and captured footage of their annual parade. Among the exquisite vehicles making their way around the track were some Alfa Romeo 4Cs and 8Cs, original Fiat 500s, a Ferrari F40, and numerous Lamborghinis.

The 1970 Bertone Lancia Stratos Prototype was designed by Bertone’s acclaimed Italian design shop. The car garnered quite a buzz when it debuted at the 1970 Turn Motor Show. This sleek, wedge-shaped car had a 1.6 liter Lancia Fulvia F4 engine under the hood with 115 horsepower at the ready.

While Bertone’s original Lancia Stratos is truly one of the most spectacular cars of all time, most of us mere mortals could never afford to buy one, at least not in drivable condition. Over the years, there have been numerous attempts to recreate the design of the Stratos with kit cars.
