Ford Mustang

Ford Performance was kind enough to invite me behind the wheel of the new Shelby GT350 and GT350R sports cars to see just what these tricked out Mustangs could do. I spent the day at the beautiful Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin – one of America’s greatest road courses, learning about Ford and Shelby heritage and engineering, as well as hands-on time on the track.

Not unlike a college bar, Mustangs seem to thrive off of significant birthdays.  It seems as if every year there’s a new “special edition” Mustang. Generally they’re only slightly more than the stock version and they throw in a few stickers and a paint scheme for extra fun.

Ford has announced that production on right-hand drive versions of the 2015 Mustang has begun at the Flat Rock Assembly plant in Michigan. This marks the first time ever that the Mustang has been offered in a right-hand drive version, allowing the car to be exported to all the nations where drivers use the left side of the road. 

When Ford first announced that it was redesigning the Mustang for 2015, it dropped the bomb that it would be the first version of the pony car to offer a 4-cylinder engine option in decades. But unlike the underpowered engines of days gone by, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost-4 under the hood of the latest generation Mustang is a powerhouse.

Yesterday marked something very special over at Ford’s Flat Rock Michigan plant. The very first production Shelby GT350 Mustang rolled off the assembly line, marking the official start of production. That should mean that Ford dealers begin getting the cars on lots soon.

This year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was hot, crowded, and filled with a passion for the automobile. It is arguably the most outstanding automotive celebration in the world. It is an event that attracts anyone and everyone who has a love for cars and grandeur.

If you have never driven a car on a racetrack of any sort, you might not realize how difficult it is to know what RPM you are at. When you are heading down the drag strip or tearing up the back straight at your lock road course, you can’t take your eyes off the track long enough to peak at the tachometer.

You know that it’s truly becoming a global economy when Ford starts selling Mustangs in the UK. 2015 is the first year that’s happening, so what better way to celebrate than by taking a pony car to the hill at Goodwood?

I’m already shocked and pleased that the New GT350 exists, takes a more track-focused approach than the GT500, and is actually just under $50k, but the official engine specs still had me wondering. Ford said the engine would produce “over 520 horsepower.”

If you haven’t had a chance to take a performance car out on LA’s historic Mulholland Drive, consider adding that sojourn to your bucket list. Last I checked, you can rent a Mustang convertible out of LAX, and even if it’s not a full-blown horsepower monster, the twists, turns,, scenery and not a few cliff-side Hollywood gazillionaire’s homes along Mulholland guarantee a memorable drive.

People love the Icon FJ40s, Eagle GTs, and Singer 911s, so those same sorts of people will no doubt be elated to hear of the existence of this: the Revology Mustang. It’s a brand new 1964.5-style Mustang body (because Ford will sell you one) fitted with all the amenities and tech that you’d expect out of a modern car.
